And the Results are In

So the Shrikes take a win in their debut season but the crowds aren't convinced they are the outright favourites.

Special mention has to go to Dan Haslam as the only coach to ensure they have submitted results for every week.

For the moment we are having a brief season Break but will return with a polished format that should solve loads of the issues people have had this season.

Nearly time to call Time

Hi all

Here is the second to last league update for the Outpost League Season 3.

Unfortunately Adrian has had to drop out of the League so all of his results are void. So if you have already played him your result will be a win by 0 strikes with no cheers, kills or deaths if you have yet to play him well done you just got a win.

The deadline for results will be 28/02/2014 so I can wrap up the results and publish them the following Monday 03/03/2014. Any results not received will count as non scoring draws with no kills, cheers or deaths.

This last Season has shown myself and Jimmi a couple of problems that we have a plan to deal with. Watch this space for news on the New and we hope final league format which will return later this year.

Match Report - The New Zaol All Hacks vs I.C.E Devils

*****Transmission intercepted between Coach Ben to his wife following last weeks thrilling game between the All Hacks and I.C.E Devils*****

"Got meself a landslide victory after the Hacks coach shouted encouragement (and waved a firearm) at Bhale our striker position number one. Bale made a mad dash and scored a 4 pointer after the ice men dropped the ball.

After Whilde the number 4 guard and Phord number 2 striker got knocked senseless the Hacks became a bit nervous and missed a catch that would have secured the game.

After some horrendous luck on the forge fathers side and even Buzzcuts inability to injure (or Kill) the Zaolian strikers they finally made a good dash and got a father father in the hacks 4 point spot...

The forge fathers would have scored a 4 pointer to equelise but for Wachington (no 7). Washingtons reanimation may make him drool like a baby but good god can the man run interference. He pounced and with a headbutt knocked the poor forge father to the floor.

The ball scattered deep into All Hacks territory and the two strikers in play were at the other end of the arena....

BUT WAIT!!!!

Number 2 striker Phord came bouncing out of injury only to scoop up the ball and sprint like a Zaolian Platypus. He was getting ready to throw the ball to Bhale. He stopped... lined up the the pass... and said "Buggah dat mate, I wohnt sahm ghloory"! he made a run for the 3 point line, He shoots He scores.

Phord got man of the match and showed off his ability to Jump like a kiwi in the khazee."

The Outpost League Week Three Results

It all hotting up with a good spread of results.

Lannidae Shrikes halt the Krumpers winning streak and keep there own alive but only through virtue of having enough cash to out pay Buzzcutt. In the same day Buzzcutt played for the CHUMS and helped them secure their first win of the season.

Meanwhile both Forge Father teams carry on losing with The Law taking a beating from the Avalanches and ICE getting landslided by the rookie Coach Ben (who still hasn't sent any results in)

So once again its all to play for in the Outpost league.

No Stats Galore this week as it seems the fans weren't very happy with any of the teams with such a low amount of fan cheers more next week.

Match Report - C.H.U.M.S secure their first cheeky victory of the league

Howdy folks, Dorksworth here for a post match analysis of this evening game between league flops Tribbiani C.H.U.M.S and the Osaka Squids.

After what has been a disappointing start to the league, with two embarrassing defeats to Forge Father teams and two dead monkeys to dispose of, it all looked very grim for Coach Joseph Tribbiani. Could tonight's default victory be a signal for change? We caught up with Tribbiani, Buzzcut, and star player Marcelle Alpha after the game to find out...

A match made in heaven?

[Dorksworth] Coach Tribbiani, you must be relieved to finally get your team on the score sheet. A few of us in the office were beginning to doubt you'd make it off the grid!

[Tribbiani] *Mutters to himself* ... And if I splice the genes of the first generation with -

[Dorksworth] COACH TRIBBIANI? Are you listening?

[Tribbiani] Hmm? Oh yes, tonight's game, very successful I'm sure... Yes Doris? You'll have to tell Dr. Simmonds to wait, I'm hungry for -

[Dorksworth] Riiiiiight.... Moving on *Fruitcake*. Many in the crowd are saying that you owe tonight's success to Buzzcut, just how much did you pay for him?!

[Tribbiani] Bananas.

[Dorksworth] What?!

[Tribbiani] Bananas. We payed for him in Bananas my dear fellow. Hmm?

[Dorksworth] Mr. Buzzcut -

[Buzzcut] *Growls*

[Dorksworth] Ahh ahem, Mr. Buzzcut - SIR - can you please explain why you took bananas for tonight's game?

[Buzzcut] I didn't, this blithering idiot is off his rocker. He offered me Bananas and I nearly rammed them up his [Redacted] but luckily for him, DGB officials stepped in and payed my wages with his underdog bonus.

[Dorksworth] Ah, it makes sense now. Can you give us a Blow by Blow account of what happened on the pitch tonight?

[Buzzcut] Well Gerald, First thing I did was squash that octopus thing they had running after the ball. Splattered him good and proper, the game was in the bag then - They had no ball handlers left, so they couldn't win.

[Dorksworth] Ah, a fortunate technicality -

[Buzzcut] *Growls* Fortune didn't come into it, When I pick my targets, they go down.

[Dorksworth] OK OK I didn't mean to offend you or anything. What happened next?

[Buzzcut] Well, then I got this chattering circus of monkey's to pester and distract a couple of his Guards. I splattered them too.

[Alpha Marcelle] Me do good, me do good, me do good.

[Dorksworth] Yes congratulations Alpha, how does it feel to win your first game?

[Alpha Marcelle] Me do good, me do good, me do good. Give banana's Alpha, me do Good?!

[Tribbiani] SILENCE ALPHA

[Dorksworth] Yes, right. Alpha, we all noticed that aside running around and getting in the way, you and your pals managed to drop the ball on several occasions, and fluff your only chance to score. This is looking like a pattern in all your games so far?

[Alpha Marcelle] Dreadball big and heavy, dreams of Banana's - distracting. Too preoccupied to be able to concentrate on game.

[Dorksworth] Which is probably going to present a problem for you team if none of you can do anything?

[Alpha Marcelle] We got plan, we got plan, we got plan!!!

[Tribbiani] SILENCE ALPHA, we will not speak of this

[Dorksworth] Buzzcut, what's that in your pocket?

[Buzzcut] This? Well, I figured I might as well get one banana *Starts peeling*

[Tribbiani] NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

[Alpha Marcelle] BANANAS!!!!!!!

[C.H.U.M.S] *Squeals of delight*

[Buzzcut] Arrrrgh, get em off me AGGGGHHHH

[Dorksworth] I'm getting out of here! Back to the office!

Who Shot the Sherriff - The Law vs Teraton Avalanches Week 3

Thonk here with an exciting write up of last nights Outpost League match between "The Law" and "Teraton Avalanches"

The Law started things off badly with No.3 "Riot" causing little more than an angry gesture towards the Teraton defensive line up. No. 1 Sheriff decided to show him how it should be done and proceeded to injure three Teratons, two would return in a couple of rushes but one was turtle soup.

The Avalanches responded in true Angry Teleporting fashion with a Teleport and Slam into the rear of  "Fuzz" the Jack injuring him for two rushes. Their No. 3 Sprinted towards the ball with far to much velocity and instead of picking up the ball the giant turtle ended up spilling it straight at Law Striker "Pursuit" and he makes a safe catch to take hold of the ball.

"Sheriff" assisted by his "Deputy" tries a double whammy on another poor turtle but only manage to push the Guard back a hex. Meanwhile "Pursuit" takes off down the pitch with speed only to end up falling over his ting legs right under a Avalanche and in the 3 Point Zone.

Another Slam in the back of "Deputy" takes him out for two. While Turtle No. 3 goes for the ball "Pursuit" just dropped, but in his anger smashes the ball into tiny pieces causing the ball to be re launched with no time left on the rush clock.

On came "Fuzz" to help even the numbers for The Law but fails to do much damage to the Avalanches players with a weak slam. Striker "Pursuit" leaps up from prone and retreats as quick as he can from the towering guard bearing down on him. Meanwhile team mate "Long Arm" sprints for the ball and runs and throws a 2 point strike to Take the Law into the Lead.

Seeing red the Teratons slam "Long Arm" hard but showing that Forge Fathers aren't all slow, he ducks and weaves past all blows. All that ducking and weaving distracted "Long Arm" for long enough for another slam to hit him in the back which knocked him to the floor, where the dastardly Turtles stomped him all the way to the bench. Thank the Forge Fathers armour for saving his body from painting the pitch red. While all that stomping and slamming was going on, a sneaky looking Teraton Jack flung the ball and scored a 2 point strike to tie the game once again.

Then the Laws luck ran quickly out of town. Sheriff unable to muster his earlier strength failed another slam and put himself in a dangerous position with his back to a Teraton Guard and team mate "Fuzz" completely fuzzed the ball giving away the rush to the even angrier looking Avalanche's.

Then it came like a falling river of snow and ice, or an Avalanche some may say. The slam to the back came as predicted and poor "Sheriff" could do nothing as his armour was crushed with him inside and he was quickly sent to Securicorps med bay to see if they could revive him. Without Guards to hold the line the Teratons soon snuck in a 4 pointer and with only a rush to go it fell to The Laws jacks to try and get the job done. Unfortunately with the lost of their leader they fell apart fumbling the ball and preparing to defend them selves one last rush.

In the end the Teratons went for the smashing way to finish a match but the Law held tight losing no more players and grinding out a loss to 4 points. The Law haven't fluffed this badly since Police Academy 5 and that's saying something. Meanwhile The Avalanches are sat looking like they have themselves a new theme tune "I shot the Sheriff" By Bob Marley and The Wailers if they can dig it out of storage.

Medical reports from The Law camp say that unfortunately during the operation to revive him and following the trauma "Sheriff's" muscle had wasted away too much for him to support his own body weight and he passed away on the table. Rumours are now spreading of a certain "project M.U.R.P.H.Y" that Securicorp have been working on which may have found it's guinea pig cadaver.

Outpost League Week Two Results

Looks like the league is hotting up with Laniidae Shrikes taking an early lead by netting 2 landslide wins. But will that increase in TR come back to haunt them in week to come once people start using their underdog bonus to by Giants and Buzzcutt. The copper division is looking strong with both the Krumpers and the Avalanches in the top 3. Coach Blakemore looks like he might be struggling to get to grips with the Forge Fathers but he has a late game divisional game against the Riptides which could give him the chance to climb up the table.

So with week 3 starting today and all teams are in the mix it could be all change come this time next week. Look for the Avalanches to improve on their win over the Squids and the CHUMS to restore Coach Jimmis winning record against the Shrikes to really mess with the league. Its all to play for in the Outpost League.

Stats Galore, Week 2, Kills

This week we shall take a look at who is throwing the big hits. First off lets see who killed the most in week 2.

Its a Tie with Blueskin Krumpers and The Teraton Avalanches with 2 Kills each. Told you the Copper Division would be bloody. The Krumpers also have the highest total Kill tally with 4 over 2 weeks if that continues they will end up winning due to dead opponents.

The list for the more humane teams is a bit bigger with Roaring Riptides, The New Zaol All Hacks, I.C.E. Devils and Tribbiani CHUMS yet to kill anyone.

In other news the award for not following the league rules goes to Coach Ben Ryan for not sending in any results at all. Consider yourself told Ben send your results in as per the league rules.

Until new week.

Squids In: the Team with No Name.

Hiya, I'm Will from the Outpost in Sheffield. I've played in every league run by the redoubtable Chris and irrepressible Jimmi, mostly with Humans, and mostly getting second place in the league and judging by the numbers of cheers, every fans' favourite second team. This season, I've challenged myself with the Nameless (The Osaka Squids) – having played John Doe in the league and season-closing tournament I think I've got a handle on Gotcha! This is an occasional blog on my team's progress and what I've learned so far...

Playing with a Nameless team is very much like a Marathon. By that I mean the chocolate not-so-recently replaced by Snickers – let me explain by introducing the players. There are two distinct types of guard (a first for Dreadball) and also strikers:

Sticky Guard
These start with a basic human guard chassis (that is to say every stat is 4+) although it is slower with a movement of 4. They also have Gotcha!, which increases their threat hex modifiers and also allows access to a whopping -3 overall modifier, enough to stop opposition Jacks from rolling any dice. They play a dual role of Guard and Jack by marking players. They're the sticky nougat at the heart of the team, holding everything together, and I have three playing in my team already.

Hitty Guard
Just like a Forgefather Guard, crunchy yet brittle, these are the peanuts with which to smash your opponent's players. With a movement of 5 they can cover a fairly broad section of the board, which is good because they'll probably do much of the legwork in clearing the board.#

Striker
Don't be fooled by these crazy shrimps, they are just human strikers in disguise! They have two ways to move the ball around - Safe Pair of Hands makes long ball (9 hex) throws fairly reliable, at least for catching; Movement 6, however, favours a running game – they should be able to get into strike zones with one sprint. Seemingly one of the most versatile strikers in the game, they are the sweet chocolate surrounding your beat sticks.

The team starts off with two each of both Guards, and it is likely that these players will stay on the pitch throughout the league (unless they are knocked off it). Whilst two hitty guards is more than enough to squish Jacks foolish enough to embrace their tentacled cousins, the two sticky guards are likely to find themselves stretched thin, as their low move. The remainder of the team is stocked up with strikers, which despite their high points cost are somewhat disposable, given their relatively squishy nature, and two will more than likely suffice on the pitch.

That's the team introduced - next time I'll go through my thoughts on the next steps in a league, ideal advancements and who to recruit next...

Blueskin Krumpers vs The New Zaol All Hacks (Week 2)

From the point of view of a blue gobbo.

It seems the Blueskin Gods are not with these All Hacks. When things were going well then Karma came back to hit them in the face.
This started when All Hacks punched a Orx guard into the recovery bay and the crowd went so wild so wild that the resonate frequency of the crowds stomping matched the shatter frequency of the dreadball exactly thus shattering it to pieces, just as the All hacks had a 3 point strike set up, how unfortunate.
Later a great play by a Blueskin gobbo gave the Blueskins a 3 Point lead and command of the game. The blueskins tried to take the win quickly after with a 4 point strike attempt but Blueskin fans worried that they wouldn't see any blood this match booed so much that it put the poor blighter off and he promptly missed.
A quick huddle saw the Blueskins go back to their Krumping ways and had the fans on their feet by killing off to poor All Hacks.
The Krump Nations baying for more blood even drowned out the cheers from the Kiwis fans as they clawed back 2 points.
Spurred on by the calls for slams and sucker punches the Blueskins forged on and took victory in style with a perfected executed 4 point strike in the dying moments of the game.

Daily Punter has reached out to The All Hacks Camp to get a counter view of the game. No news yet but when we have it you can be sure that you will hear it here first.

If you have match reports you would like to see on the Daily Punter please send details to Thonk and Walker.

Outpost League Week One Results

A few technical issues (Thonk and Walker hit The Law's after party a bit too hard) but here are the results that have been submitted to League HQ for Week One. (Missing a few still)

Correction: I.C.E. Devils have a team rating of 101mc and Laniidae Shrikes have a team rating of 121mc.

Looks like there is going to be fierce competition in all divisions. Especially in the Iron Division where The Law won their first divisional match up against a CHUMs team still trying to find its monkey feet and to go one better rivals the Shrikes took the first Landslide of the league over new kids I.C.E. In other divisions a bloody battle between the Krumpers and Squids saw no less than 4 Deaths, equally shared 2 a piece and that is before the Teratons even get involved as they had a week one bye. In the Steel Division the Riptides took the tops spot after a win over fellow rookies the Hacks and I.C.E. sits at the bottom of the table after the landslide loss to cross division rivals the Shrikes.

Week One Feature STAT! Death Toll

This week we look at who is going to have to hold fresh trials to replace their losses early in the league.
  1. Blueskin Krumpers (2 Deaths)
  2. Osaka Squids (2 Deaths)
  3. Tribbiani CHUMS (2 Deaths)
  4. I.C.E. Devils (1 Death)
As you can see a 3 way tie with 3 teams having to replace multiple losses early in the league. Next week we shall look at who is throwing the big hits with a look at the kills inflicted.

Season 3 Lineup - Coaches Contacts

With the fixtures for the whole league now sent to coaches its high time we gave all you Dreadball fans a rundown of the teams competing for the biggest Dreadball League this side of the Trent gulf.

So in no particular order... (forum name is in brackets)

Roaring Riptides - Steel Division
Coach - Adrain Mills (AdrianMills)
Type - Corporation (Sirens)
The Riptides are a new team with a coach new to league play. We have seen how these girls roll in what was an epic cat fight for the wooden spoon in Punter Bowl a few months ago. Are these girls ready to Roar into the lead in this Season or will they be out with the tide?

The New Zoal All Hacks - Steel Division
Coach - Ben Ryan (ScewbylikeAsir)
Type - Corporation (29ers)
Another new coach in the Steel division could make for some great action this season. The flexibity of the Corporation team will grant a helpful introduction into league play, but can they build on it to take top spots or will they just be another hack?

I.C.E. Devils - Steel Division
Coach - Simon Blakemore (Simon)
Type - Forge Fathers
A Veteran of the Outpost League. Mr Blakemore has returned for a 3rd season with a new team. Forge Fathers seem to be back on the rise again after suffering during Seasons 1 and 2. Can Simon breathe new life into the little men or will the new rookies in his division put a chill on their success?

The Law - Iron Division
Coach - Chris Blackburn (chrisbburn)
Type - Forge Fathers
Back with Forge Fathers, although definatly not the same team he lost everything with in Season 1. The Law are a force to be reckoned with especially in a division of rivals like the Iron Division. Will these self proclaimed upholders of justice show their bitter rivals the error of their ways or will in be a night in the can for The Law?

Laniidae Shrikes - Iron Division
Coach - Chris Daubney (I AM MOGAR!)
Type - Corporation (Sirens)
After two seasons coaching the Beasts to become the fan favorites and putting plenty of strikers in the ICU. Coach Daubney has hung up his Beasting gloves in favor of the pesky Sirens play style. Will this change allow him to finally win a league instead?

Tribbiani CHUMS - Iron Division
Coach - James Taylor (jimmi)
Type - Zees
After a Landslide win with The Tuscan Swordfish in Season 2 and a overall win at Punterbowl with the Mighty Dorks, seems like Coach Jimmi is looking for a new challenge and they come in form of a troupe of cloned mini monkeys. Sure to bring chaos and confusion but can this veteran clone another win or will he slip on a banana skin?

Osaka Squids - Copper Division
Coach - Will Hopkins (Jaggedlilwill)
Type - Nameless
Another Veteran coach returning with a new season 3 team. Will has played in all the Outpost events and has plenty of experience winning with different teams and now he is trying his hand at the Nameless - A team that has been mentioned [perhaps somewhat prematurely - ed] as the Judwan of season 3 either way they look a very powerful team can Will make them winners or just damp squid?

Blueskin Krumpers - Copper Division
Coach - Daniel Haslem (vorpalhit)
Type - Marauders
Back for another season after taking the plunge with a Forge Father team in season 2 where he racked up some impressive stats for the then lost cause Forge Fathers including breaking the Tuscan Swordfish in a landslide victory. Dan is back for more with another Season 1 team and the only Marauders team in the league which puts them in great posistion for the bloodiest team this time round, or will they get themselves krimped?

Teraton Avalanches - Copper Division
Coach - Tom Silcock (Tom_Uk)
Type - Teraton
Our final team and another veteran member of the outpost league. Tom is backing the Teratons this season and by all acoounts in pre season games they are a force to worry about. They hit like giant teleporting turtles that are angry, very angry. You're going to see some bloody games in the Copper division and I think Turtles might come out on top unless someone can give them a serious shredding.

And so thats the line up, The league begins on Monday who is going to get first blood/strike/win?

Stay tuned to the Punter.

When a player advances in rank, instead of rolling on the advancement table you may choose for them to learn the 'Captain' ability. From that point onwards, team Captains increase in value and rank as normal but have the following ability:

Captain - Any Role - One Player per Team
Leadership, it's a funny thing, some have got it some haven't. Some try too hard to force it on others, and others just fall into it like they were born to the role. This player has clearly got it. They are followed blindly by teammates, loved by the fans and paid millions by teams and sponsors. This places great expectations on the player and should they fail, they quickly lose their star status.

Any doubled slam, slamback, strike or catch by this player causes an additional fan check. Should this player be sent off, the team loses a number of random fan check cards from their pile equal to the number of rushes they have been sent off for. So a Captain sent off for 5 rushes not only gets a red card as standard, but would also lose his team 5 fan check cards.

This counts for being sent of by the Ref Bot and as the result of a nasty slam. So watch out!

Should a captain die and not be resurrected, the team may promote a new Captain when a player levels up as before.

Ranking for the League Winner is as follows:

1.      League Points
2.      Wins
3.      Landslide Wins
4.      Strike Difference
5.      Team Rating

Teams always receive 5mc each match as an appearance fee plus a bonus as shown below:

2 Dice for a Win
1 Dice for a Draw
1 Dice for a Loss
+ 1 Dice for a Landslide
- 1 Dice for a Loss by Landslide
+ 1 Dice for every whole 10mc higher team ranking your opponent had at the start of the match.

In the Ultimate showcase the appearance fee is doubled to 10mc and the cash dice are shown below.

1st Place 3 Dice
2nd Place 2 Dice
3rd Place 1 Dice
0 Dice for a loss (this is everyone if a team Landslides you all)
+ 1 Dice per Opponent for a Landslide
+ 1 Dice for every whole 10mc higher team ranking your opponent had at the start of the match.

* Landslide Win 3 Points
* Win 2 Points
* Draw 1 Point
* Loss 1 Point
* Landslide Loss 0 Points

* Each week I will need the following info from BOTH coaches

The League is a Comin'

Comin' soon to an 'Outpost' near you!
In just over a weeks time The latest season of The Outpost League will kick off. 9 Teams are already registered and a few are waiting in the wings, they better be quick deadline is 23:59 on 29/10/2013. This is the 3rd time the Blackburn-Taylor power house has ran this league and is set to be the biggest yet. With the experience of 2 successful leagues under their belt already, a few tweaks have been made here and there to get the best experience for everyone involved.

This Season all 12 teams are eligible, and with the increased fame of the Outpost League, all the MVPs have flocked to get involved. This increase in Star players has in turn increased profits so expect to see higher rated teams than before and all those MVPs sharing themselves out across multiple games each week. That's right, they're no longer unique! They are however, still unique to that game being played. We hope that this change will make competition more fierce and give a handy boost to lower rated teams as they can use their underdog bonus to secure the likes of Slippery Joe or Buzzcut or any of the new Giants from season 3.

Speaking of Season 3, plans are afoot to have a league get together just before the Xmas break to play a few of the Ultimate games for big money league money. More details coming soon.

As always the Daily Punter team will be bringing you the best of league news and gossip, With Thonk, Walker, Gerald Dorksworth and Gabby "The Beard" Logan all ready to go.

To help us make sure we have all the cool happenings we encourage all coaches to send in match reports to thonkandwalker@gmail.com and we shall get them on the punter.

Keep an eye on the Punter next week for fixtures, team rosters and much more.

One last thing GAME ON!

Around the Sphere Wk Commencing 14/10/2013 ( Drunken Lateness)

I told Walker Cocktails were a bad idea.

This week has seen some nice additions to the Mantic store, especially some helpful packs to complete your teams. These come in the shape of free agent packs, one for each of the first 2 seasons and as a bonus for being a robot coach you get the quick change artist pack. Which is really helpful to build a full robots team. Go grab them.

With only a few weeks left before the end of Outpost off season, its soon time to start Season 3 of the Outpost League. The Daily Punter with all its new found investment is going to be your hub of info on the comings and goings of new and old teams, and of course your favourite duo will be back bringing you the scoops and Gaby "The Beard" Logan will be pitch side for interviews and more.

If you are still yet to sign up for the Outpost League head over to the Outpost forums and sign up.

Stay tuned Dreadball fans, this time its going to be 'Giant'!

In other news, Mantic have recently released info around their favourite crossover MVP, "Blaine" from extreme. He is now making an appearance in Mars Attacks (such a PR Hussy). In other Mars Attacks/Dreadball News Ronnie Renton all but confirmed a Martian team in the future, and in true Mantic fashion stole Thomas Silcock's Xmas Elves idea - how cheeky (not that Mantic have done this before hey Tom?)

That's all for this week. Catch you [ed - on time hopefully] next week.

Around the Sphere - Wk Commencing 30/09/2013

Welcome back sports fans.

Been a pretty quiet week as far as Dreadball goes. One piece of info I dug up was that Ronnie Renton let slip was a planned stretch goal for Mars attacks was a possible Martians team. Which then started comments being disclosed on facebook that there is possible 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th teams in the pipeline. Looks like mantic were watching last weeks wish list.

In other news ONLY a few more weeks left to sign up for the third season of The Outpost League. I believe there are about 5 more spaces left with a few people showing interest. So if you live around Sheffield head to the Outpost Forums and sign up. We are just putting the final touches on the league and having the experience of 2 previous league this one is going to ge better than even. Six player games I here you ask yep we will git them in.

As well as all this just a quick reminder that if you have a team that you want to show off then the Daily Punter is your premium broadcaster. Send details to Gerald Dorksworth with pictures if you have them and lets see who makes the front pages.

That's all for this week.

How to run a league (Outpost Style)

Howdy folks, Dorksworth here. Today I’m going to talk to you about the way we run the Outpost League and why we think it’s the best way. Now that’s not to say that other ways are bad, but we found out very quickly that the “official” rules were not very practical when you’re trying to run a league alongside other real life commitments. So without further ado...

How to determine league standings

The official rules suggest using your team ranking as the primary factor for determining where you stand in the league. The problem that we see with that is purely on personal preference. It just doesn’t sit right with us that a team that is asset and cash rich should rank higher than a team that won more games.

Consequently, we run a league points system where you get:

  • 3 points for a landslide win
  • 2 points for a win of 1-6 strikes
  • 1 point for a draw
  • 1 point for a  loss of 1-6 strikes
  • 0 points for a landslide loss

In the event of a tie on league points, we then consider other factors such as win:loss ratio and team rating.

One early concern we had was that this would reward high scoring teams too much, and ignore our more violence focused teams. However, we’ve found that this is simply not an issue, as a good slamming team should always focus on removing the enemy’s ability to strike. In conjunction with this, a striker team will find it progressively more difficult to win games as the league progresses due to taking losses.

MVP’s
Officially, you’re supposed to hold an eBay style bidding war for MVPs prior to each round of games. The problem with this is that it requires you to have all your coaches in one place at the same time. I don’t know about your league, but we run leagues of 12 or more people which last for months. It’s simply not practical to get everyone in one place at once.

One possible solution we worked with was the idea that you could put your bids in electronically, however we found that coaches at their computers are less inclined to communicate with their next opponent to work out their underdog bonus, so bids could only be made with real money. Consequently people were less than inclined to waste their precious money on one shot bonuses, and the MVP system was grossly underutilised.

The solution we have come up with relied on MVP’s only being unique on a match basis. So at the start of every game, when coaches are together and have worked out their team rankings and underdog bonus, at that point they then hold an open bidding war for MVPs, and that way they can use their underdog bonus in conjunction with their liquid cash.

Money
Again we run it slightly different from the official rules, we give out a flat appearance fee of at least 4mc (to potentially cover one cheap resurrection) plus:

  • 3 dice for a landslide win
  • 2 dice for a win of 1-6 strikes
  • 1 dice for a draw
  • 1 dice for a loss of 1-6 strikes
  • 0 dice for a landslide loss

That way the money keeps on flowing, and teams that fall on hard times don’t end up turning into masses of free agents as they can generally afford to buy the odd new player here and there.

Friendlies
Whilst friendlies are encouraged, no friendly game can affect the league, so no tracking levels up, no earnings, no deaths or kills, and no league points. We find that this is much less complicated from an administrative perspective than trying to track the multitude of variables that can occur as a result of friendlies.

That just about covers it, in all other respects we play as per the official rules. I hope this helps some of you to set up your own leagues, if you have any questions or comments, please drop us a message below!

We're Back! Outpost League Season 3 Preview Preview

 photo ThonkandWalker_zps3991f6c0.jpg

Re-introducing your favourite pundits Garry "Golden Boy" Walker and Thonk "The Thinker"

[Garry] That’s right sports fans thanks to "Sir" Gerald Dorksworth, we are free and back on the holo-vids.

[Thonk] Garry there is no way you can think that we are going to be free - it's going to be a Mighty Dorks songs of praise from here on.

[Garry] Thonk, we've talked about this - Gerald Dorksworth is a fine upstanding pillar of the community. *Cough*

[Thonk] In the interest of staying on the air I will shut up.

[Garry] A wise idea my clever green friend. Well on with the show.

[Thonk] We are here for a preview of our season preview, mainly because teams cannot seem to work out their own identity.

[Garry] Season 3 is set to be huge Thonk, maybe all these GIANTS are scaring the coaches of previous seasons into changing their approach.

[Thonk] Or just their name as the newly christened 'The Law' seem to have done. How anyone has been taken by this new team is beyond me - the only thing different between them and the Arkand Ramz is that The Law seem to be able to win.

[Garry] Thonk, we've only just closed a legal case let’s not start again. But I can see where you might get that idea. In other news rumours have it that The Kilika Beasts, season 1 and 2 fan favourite’s will not attempt to hold their status as Brutes and Thugs in season 3 - what can this mean?

[Thonk] I think Beasts chairman Chris Daubney has got bored of writing condolences to the unfortunate victims of a "Beasting"

[Garry] Well I am sure that his new team The Laniidae Shrikes will be equally entertaining - just a little more on the human side.

[Thonk] Other teams we have heard rumours of are the Titan Wasps, the League of Super Villains and the Osaka Squids. As always we will have more news as soon as we have it.

[Garry] And during Season 3 we will be bringing all the high speed action and analysis you came to expect before ARC Corporation tried to shut us down.
