Dreadball Martians?
There seems to be a growing consensus among the Mantic fanbase that we could well be in for a pitch invasion from Mars.
Aside from the questions this will present vis a vis universe cross overs, I wonder what sort of team they would be. Martians are not exactly known for their speed or brute strength, they are however, exceptionally technically advanced and cruel beyond reason. Perhaps this could translate into a high skill stat and some rather nasty special rules respectively.
Special rules that could kill a man from 20 yards. With mind bullets. You heard it speculated here first.
What do you think?

Not really too interested in a Martian team. Seems a bit gimiky and feels like trying to cash-in. Thats GWs domain and they may take legal action!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's less a cash in, and more a bit of fun as a reward. I would like to see some solid explanation for the universe cross over though, even if it's only something jokey :)
DeleteI think they'll have goldfish bowls on their heads.
ReplyDeleteI suspect you may be on to something there :)
DeleteFor me, it's weird, I see them playing as Asterians. That being said, the big kicker for them would probably be the ability to Slam from a distance, which would help tremendously since I don't see how they can escape being Fragile, fishbowl and all!
ReplyDeleteNever been a fan of Mars Attacks, although the movie was funny. I have zero interest in a DreadBall team of Martians and would be disappointed to see them come into existence. It would break the setting for me, as it's a completely different I.P. I can't imagine they would be a good team, either. They're not the most athletic aliens, especially with exposed brains sloshing around. High-impact Slams would be incredibly deadly. Without those fishbowls, they'd last about 2 seconds!
ReplyDeletePlease, please, PLEASE do not add in other IPs into Dreadball. I feel that would hurt the game in long run. It needs to remain a legitimate IP with coaches and MVPs as throwbacks, but those still needs to maintain a "warpath" look and feel.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that it would "hurt the game"... If it can be justified with (suitably daft) reasoning then I don't see an issue, unless the Martians continue to become a major player in the Warpath universe.
DeleteAfterall, Robocop didn't ruin the Terminator franchise, and Alien's didn't ruin the Predator franchise...
Aliens and Predators were intertwined from the start. Terrible example. This is more akin to combining Star Wars with Star Trek. If they want to make "unofficial" rules, whatever. But I have to echo what I've seen and heard from others that I MUCH rather them spend the time and give us some teams from all those Reb races from Deadzone.
DeleteStick to your own IP instead set in a different galaxy instead of slopping the bloody thing up with other oddball IPs.
Hey fella, trust me, no they weren't. They we're introduced together as a quick nod in Predator 2 where there's a quick shot of an Alien skull in the space ship at the end of the film.
DeleteThen Dark Horse comics made the universe crossover.
But back to the topic. It's horses for courses, different strokes for different folks. If you don't like the Martians, don't acknowledge them :)
